Lazy weekend and day in Peniscola
Saturday 18 February
Not a lot to report about today as we had a lift with Karen and Steve to Consum (the just out of town supermarket) in the morning, did a washload, sat about in the sunshine reading, doing puzzles etc. We felt the need for a bit of exercise in the late afternoon, so went up a lane away from the sea for a change and came across a park. Not a very good photo, but it's long and narrow between 2 roads, but has lots of seats and playthings for children.
Chef cooked dinner outside (note the carton of Sangria that goes with him everywhere!) - fresh fish, which turned out to be hake, which went down well with sweet potato, potato and carrot mash + peas and beans.
Sunday 19 February
Another lazy day with breakfast outdoors, joining zoom church - this week our Deacon, Sarah, led the service and waved to us when she realised we were there and mentioned that there were International viewers today! - and joining a small group of friends for the-now-regular Sunday Street Party.
If we turn right out of the campsite, rather than left to Alcossebre, it becomes more remote and the beach very pebbly. Occasionally motorhomes park up here rather like we do at Goring-by-Sea. Here though it's getting busy with 2.Monday 20 February
Lots of photos today as we took the van out to Peniscola, the next town north of here. We did go there in 2020 and stayed a few days at the campsite and had a lovely meal in the restaurant. So this time we parked up beside the beach, sat on the wall to drink our coffee/tea with the backdrop of the peninsular in the distance.
We looked at the noticeboard by the beach and the one in the centre says that it is forbidden to reserve a space on the beach - made us laugh on a day like today!
We had a short walk along the beach for a while till Restaurant Eden opened at 1 o'clock.
It was just as good as we remembered - maybe a little pricier at €18 for 3 courses including an appetiser, bread and water. Foodie pics coming up ..... John had the starter he had at our campsite restaurant, broken egg, bacon and artichoke, but it looked very different here.
I had onion soup, which was very good. This is my swordfish with jacket potato and mushrooms. John had chicken in rocquefort sauce, same veggies.
This is chocolate mousse - 3 layers of different chocolates. John's is creme brulee, Spanish style.
We were out on the terrace in very warm sunshine
until we started to sizzle....
... so we walked the mile or so towards the castle,
passing some unusual features on the prom.
We climbed up the steps onto the peninsular
up to the church (closed)
and the lighthousewith views down into the gardens (went in there last time)
through the pretty streets
(I liked these doors)
Coming back down, we looked across to where we had parked the van, which is just about above the tree in the centre.
On full zoom, my camera found us! So we did a jolly good step-count and it was a super day out,
added to by stopping off at a big Aldi for looking at things we didn't need, but still managed to buy some loo rolls!
