Souillac - Uzerche - St.Germain-les-Belles

 Tuesday 28 February

We continued our journey north this morning from Castelnaudary to Souillac on the Dordogne.  Although we'd had a sunny drive, it was rather dull and chilly when we went for our walk around Souillac.  Some interesting buildings to see.

And of course, the river.  We've been here several times in summers gone by, but it all looks very drab in the winter.
The summer clothing has all been packed away again!

We are staying at a very spacious Camping-Car Park between the river and the town.

Wednesday 1 March

A shorter journey today, so decided to come off the autoroute and discover the 2-star (ie worth a visit) town of Uzerche.  It is on the River Vezere, with the town built up the hillsides either side.  We parked at the old railway station.  The trains would have gone from here across the very long viaduct - this is now a footpath.

Here are various views as we did our walk around this very scenic town.

It was lunch-out day today, so - advance warning - food pictures to follow.

John's starter is a platter of meats, mine a very delicious pumpkin soup.

Both had the confit of duck
My dessert is a nutty tart and John had cheese board.  Our young waitress told him what each of the 4 cheeses were, but he didn't have a clue...
Later, as we left Uzerche, we noted that our van has travelled 40,000 miles with us - since 2015, not this trip!
This is where we are staying the night (and getting some washing done).  It's Camping Montreal at St. Germain-les-Belles.
We are by a small lake which we walked around while the washing was in the dryer.

The site is a little bit quirky, with various collections of old pots and pans and kitchen items dotted about.  Meant to photograph more of them - will have to do that in the  morning.

The sunshine helps us forget how cold it is, so we are hoping for a clear day again tomorrow.

  1. I don't know what happened to my comment of the other day, said it was published but clearly not! So will try harder! Glad you have some sunshine. It is a good thing you are getting acclimatised to the cold as it is jolly chilly here and not forecast to get into double figures until next weekend! A very busy time here, beetle drive and the family here last weekend for a late celebration of Andy's birthday! Sorry I didn't post your card, l had thought we would see him sooner! We missed you at the beetle drive, of course, but it went well and over 50 people played and enjoyed a baked potato supper. Now into Lent were back doing Lent lunches every Friday, well supported so far. Amazing to think you have travelled all those miles in your van, hope you find some more pretty towns, quirky campsites and beautiful scenery on your way home.xc

  2. Well as Carolyn said it's chilly here. I'm off to help at the Lent lunch later with my spicy parsnip soup, hot soup is good on a day like today! We had the Bristol branch of the family here for a long weekend (went home Wednesday) which was lovely. Missing my cuddles with baby Marcie! See you next week x
